Working in coalition with the Building America Program and the Florida Solar Energy Center, there is a new subdivision in Gainesville building, the first "zero energy" and "near zero energy" homes.

Richard Schackow, who is developing this property, is following specifications that can mean "no electric bill" for the homeowner. The project is called "FOREST CREEK", and located on NW 17th ST, and NW 34th AVE, about 3 miles north of UF.

Homes will have photo-voltaic solar electric, solar hotwater, and a full list of energy features for a solid efficient house. Home prices will start under $300,000 after solar rebates.
