Gainesville was recognized a few years ago, as the #1 City to live. It offers a wide category of things to do, places to go, and a more affordable cost of living. With the University of Florida and the Shand’s Teaching Hospital, we have an additional percentage of professional working people, college students, and UF activities, which help to make Gainesville a desirable place to live. A lot of people comment on Gainesville’s sidewalks, bike trails, nature trails, and how it is not as busy as other places.
The Florida Solar Energy Center and Department of Energy are involved with the energy specifications going into each home, and will be monitoring the energy used, and showing the public how much can be saved.
With energy costs for the home and auto getting out of control, the developer is trying to build low energy homes, convenient close in location, and low maintenance upkeep.
Each home has a professional energy rater perform the HERS index. This stands for “home energy rating system”. The first two homes have been tested and rated most energy efficient in Alachua County, and probably a big portion of Florida. The HERS ratings were 16 and 17.
The project is called “FOREST CREEK”, and located about 3 miles north of the University of Florida, located on NW 17 St, and NW 34 Ave. The development has a large wooded preserve area, it backs up to Hogtown Creek, and there are 28 lots.
We anticipate approximately 20 solar homes. We feel this category of solar and energy efficiency will promote an alternative quality neighborhood to live in.
